Description

Forresters Cottage comprises a picturesque group of houses dating from the late 15th and early 16th centuries, restored in the 1960s. The buildings are timber framed, with some of the framing exposed. They have plain tile roofs. The left-hand part (Nos. 2 and 3 Forresters Cottages) is a late 15th century hall house with jettied cross wings. No. 1 was built in the early 16th century as a two-storey house with a front jetty. It has two storeys and seven modern glazing bar casement windows. There are three doors with 16th century moulded four-centred frames. Nos. 2 and 3 have four windows each. Two gabled attics are located in the centre. Upper floors of the cross wings feature bull-nose joists and curved brackets. Close, wide studs are exposed on the ground floor of the wings and full height in the centre. No. 1 has exposed studs on the ground floor and a deep jetty carried on curved brackets. A 17th century stack was inserted next to the right cross wing, and a restored 17th to 18th century stack is at the east end. The interiors of Nos. 2 and 3 display bull-nose joists and curved brackets.
