Description

The village lock-up, also known as a cage, is located in the garden of number 20 in Ashwell. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and is a small square building constructed with clunch walls and topped with a slate pyramid roof. The west elevation features an original studded plank door set in an oak frame, with a barred iron grill positioned above it. The building also has flat wooden eaves.
