Description

The observation stone, located 4 meters northeast of the observatory at South Wing, St. Ibbs, was erected in 1801 for Reverend William Lax as part of the nearby observatory. Made of Portland stone, this freestone monolith is shaped into an upright drum that is approximately 1 meter in diameter and 1 meter high. The north side is marked by a small engaged circular shaft that projects from it. The center of the drum features an iron stud set in lead, and the edges of the stone are rounded.
