Description

St. Ibbs Lodge is a gate lodge, now a private house, dating to the early to mid-19th century, with a western wing added in 1975. The original northern wing has thick cob walls, rendered with a roughcast finish, and is sheltered by a wide, steeply pitched thatched roof. The roof features decorative ridge details and eyebrow dormers with aprons. The western wing is similarly finished with roughcast and has a matching roof extension with a half-hip at the southern end.

The lodge is a small, one-and-a-half-storey rectangular building set back from the road beside the former gates to St. Ibbs. It has an entrance on the eastern side, facing the road, and a longer, 20th-century extension running south from the west end along the south side. A new diagonal entrance has been created in the angle of the extension. There is a chimney at the junction of the wings and another on the south section of the western wing on the roof slope. The outer wall and roof form a parabolic curve.

The original entrance features a plank door with a rounded top, flanked by two round-arched windows. The windows are wooden casements with Y-tracery and small panes, and retain external boarded shutters on two similar windows on the north side. The lodge has semi-circular recessed dormer windows – one on the east end and two on the north roofslope, along with a matching dormer on the western wing. A semi-circular bay window is located at the south end.
