Description

Elder Mead is a house dating from the early to mid-17th century, with later extensions. It features a timber frame with roughcast exterior and a half-hipped thatch roof, along with a central brick axial ridge stack. The building has a two-bay lobby entry and is 1½ storeys high. The central entrance is sheltered by a thatched porch with pargetted plaster and a timber door. On either side of the entrance are three-light lattice casements, and there is a similar eyebrow dormer to the right. A tall stack is located to the right of the main block, at the junction with a one-storey extension that has a subsidiary entrance. Inside, there is a slightly cambered tie beam with struts supporting the central truss, jowled posts, and a double inglenook with stopped chamfered lintels.
