Description

Manor House, dating to the late 18th century, with a large rear extension added in the late 19th century, stands on the north side of Knebworth Park Lane. Constructed of red brick with a plain tile roof, the house has two storeys and attics. The 18th-century section features brick dentilled eaves. The front elevation presents five recessed sash windows, with a central flush panel door set within a moulded architrave frame. Two box sash dormers are also visible. A two-storey, three-sided window bay projects towards the garden on the left side, adjacent to two sash windows and two hipped dormers. The courtyard elevation has an 18th-century flush panel door and an arched window on the first floor. The 18th-century windows have gauged heads, with some evidence of burnt headers. Inside, a central 18th-century dogleg staircase is characterised by plain moulded balusters. An early 20th-century wooden panelled gate and cornice to the front were designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.
