Description

Walnut Tree Farmhouse is a timber-frame hall house dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, with a jettied cross wing on the south side. A floor and stack were inserted in the 17th century. The walls are roughcast, with weatherboarded plinth, and the roof is covered in plain tiles. The farmhouse has two storeys with three wood-framed, glazing-bar casement windows. A large, square stack rises from the front slope of the roof. A plank door is located to the right of the stack, set within an early 19th-century moulded frame and segmental hood. Two box casement dormers are present. The right return gable end features a ground floor constructed of 18th-century chequered red brick. A 17th-century rear wing is visible in the gable end stack. The left return gable end displays a late 18th-century external stack. Inside, the ground floor wall behind this stack reveals large curved tension braces and a heavy, chamfered floor beam. Curved brackets support the jetty. The building has group value.
