Description

Wallington Chase is a house dated 1840, marked by a quatrefoil above the entrance porch. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and has a tiled roof, showcasing Tudor Revival features. The house has two storeys and an attic, with the entrance located to the left of centre in a large gabled porch featuring a four-centred arched entrance and a heraldic device in the gable. On either side of the porch are four-light mullion and transom casements with glazing bars, decorative stopped hood moulds, and yellow brick quoining. A moulded string course runs along the building, with a date stone on the first floor flanked by similar windows. Above the entrance is a large gabled dormer. To the right, there is an extruded stack with two diagonal shafts topped with yellow brick caps, and the chimney breast features decoratively cusped lozenges. A central ridge stack is present as well. The right-hand return has a two-storey cement-rendered canted bay window with similar windows, friezes of quatrefoils and lozenges between the floors, and an embattled parapet. The left-hand return has two first-floor windows; one is blocked, while the other has four lights, each with a four-centred arched head. An elaborately corbelled out gable chimney is also present. All gables feature coped parapets and kneelers, with lightly chamfered angles. To the rear, a large block extends under two parallel ridges, similarly fenestrated, with multiple diagonally set shafts on the stacks of the return ridges. There are further later extensions and attached garden walls. The interior has not been inspected.
