Description

Courtwyck is a house located in Little Wymondley, dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, replacing an earlier house known as 'Kotewyke' mentioned in the 15th century. The northern end features early 18th century red brick infill and casing. The house underwent renovation with the addition of a southern wing between 1984 and 1985. It is constructed from timber framing with red brick infill, a dark weatherboarded rear wall, and a red brick southern wing. The roofs are steeply thatched with reeds, and the older part has a roof that extends down over a projecting oven at the rear.

The house is 1.5 stories tall and faces west, with the northern gable facing the road and the modern southern wing of matching height. The west front has three ground floor sash windows with flush boxes and 3/6 panes, and there is a plank door situated between the right-hand pair of windows. An internal chimney is located at the northern gable. The roof features two hipped dormers, and the northern side of the southern wing has two two-light casement windows and one dormer. The northern gable end displays early red brickwork, a plat band, a chamfered plinth, a small upper window on the right-hand side, and a segmental arch leading to a similar window below, both with small-paned casements. Inside, the house has cross-beams and an inglenook. An inventory and will from 1630 mention a hall and chamber.
