Description

38-40 Bancroft is a 17th to 18th century plastered house with two storeys and a steep tiled roof, featuring a cross-gable at the northern end above a carriageway. The ground floor has been completely altered with modern shop fittings, but it still shows that the upper floor originally had a significant overhang. The upper floor retains basket-work gargetting and a plain plaster roundel in the cross-gable that displays the date '1726'. Three windows on the upper floor have been completely modernized. The carriageway is located under the gable.
