Description
The barns at Wallingtonbury, located 70 meters east of the farmhouse, are a late 18th-century structure. They feature a single aisle design with a timber frame, a brick plinth, and weatherboarding, topped with a slate gambrel roof. The building consists of four bays and has two windows on the entrance elevation. Inside, there are tie beams with struts supporting the rafters, and collar beams that clasp the purlins. The posts are lightly jowled, with curved braces connecting the posts to the wall plates and tie beams.
To the south, there is an attached lower range of five bays, which has a corrugated iron roof and a gambrel at the southern end. This range includes a central threshing bay on the eastern front, with tie beams made from re-used posts featuring trenches for lap joints, along with collar beams and curved braces similar to those in the main barn. These barns are part of the eastern range of a much-altered open courtyard of farm buildings.
