Description

The entrance gatepiers and gates to The Leys were built in 1923, with the gates being renewed in 1980. They were designed by George Walton in the Scottish Baronial style. The two circular gatepiers are made of rendered brick and topped with conical tiled caps. The gates are teak replicas of the original oak gates, featuring a ledged and braced construction, pegged joints, and close-set vertical rails. The carriage gates in the center are slightly arched, while pedestrian gates are located on either side. The original strap hinges are signed by Charles Collinge from Lambeth.
