Description
The Lodge at The Leys is a lodge and gardener's cottage built around 1923 by George Walton for J.B.B. Wellington of The Leys. It features whitewashed render on the walls and chimneys, deep rendered eaves, and a very steeply pitched hipped roof covered with plain tiles and lead flashings. The building is a single range of one storey with an attic.
On the exterior, there are four windows on the ground floor, all of which are 3-light metal casements. The centre and right hip have raking dormers with similar windows. Between the left windows, there are double plank doors with metal lights. At the right end, there is a small flat-roofed larder.
Inside, the lodge includes small cast iron fire grates and plank doors with strap hinges that end in leaf motifs. This lodge is notable for its distinctive roof design, which it shares with The Leys, and is included for its group value with the Entrance Gatepiers and Gates, serving as a key subsidiary building to The Leys.
