Description
Allum House is a former stable building dating from 1789, originally serving Barham House, which is not listed. It has been altered in the mid-20th century and is now divided into two dwellings. The structure is made of stuccoed brick with a slate roof and features a symmetrical design with two central bays that project under a pediment adorned with moulded cornices.
On the ground floor, there are four round-headed windows set in relieving arches, while the first floor has casement windows with oculi in the attic. The flanking wings have entrances towards the center, each sheltered by mid-20th century Tuscan porches positioned at angles to the main block. The wings also feature similar windows and hipped roofs. The building has a central ridge stack and two additional stacks on the hips of the side wings.
At the rear of the return walls, there are two plaques that define the boundary of the property, with the one on the right dated 1789, which may have been reset. The interior has not been inspected. The property also includes No. 2 Barham Avenue.
