Description
46, 48, and 48A High Street is a house that has been converted into two shops and a flat. It dates back to the 16th century, with flooring and heating added in the 17th century, and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with brick walling, some weatherboarding, rendering, and applied timber. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof and was likely originally a single-ended open hall. The structure consists of three bays and has two storeys plus an attic. The ground floor has shop fronts, while the first floor includes three 2-light casement windows with applied timber studs and one 2-light dormer. There is a 17th-century stack at the rear of the ridge between the two hall bays on the right, which has been rebuilt, and a second stack on the left side of the rear pitch. The left gable end displays exposed framing with brick nogging, jowled posts, and evidence of curved braces. The gable ends are weatherboarded, and the rear shows first-floor exposed studs with brick nogging. There is a one-storey addition at the rear that is not of special interest. The interior has not been inspected.
