Description
This building, located at 76-79 Cold Christmas Lane, is a Grade II listed house that has been divided into four separate homes. The left section dates back to the 17th century and was later subdivided and extended in the 18th century with a pair of smaller houses. The ground floor is cased in red brick, added in the 19th century, along with rear extensions, a small porch on the west end, and new windows to No. 79 in the 20th century. The structure features a timber frame that is weatherboarded, topped with a steep old red tile roof, while the ground floor is made of red brick.
Originally, Nos 76 and 77 were a single two-storey house with a cellar and a central chimney, which was once known as The Fox public house. To the north of this, a pair of two-and-a-half-storey houses was constructed, sharing the same eaves and ridge height but with lower ground floor and storey heights. The south front has four windows, one for each house on each floor, along with two gabled dormer windows on the northern part and higher-set windows in the southern part. The windows are two-light flush casement types, and the doors and ground floor windows are recessed under segmental arches. There are two central chimneys. This building is significant in views along the ridge road and is included for its group value.
