Description
East Lodge is an early 19th-century gate lodge featuring a timber-framed structure with roughcast exterior. It has a pyramidal slate roof and a prominent octagonal central chimney. The lodge includes a projecting central porch, which has a low-pitched slate roof adorned with a cusped bargeboard and a moulded pendant. The entrance door is broad, consisting of three panels wide and two panels high, framed by a moulded architrave. The windows are three-light mullioned types with lattice leaded glazing and an iron central casement. Additional architectural details include projecting eaves and timber strips at the corners. The white brick chimney has a square base, an octagonal shaft, and oversailing courses supported by angle-corbels. This picturesque gate lodge exhibits Gothic character and is part of a group that includes the former stables to the south.
