Description
Rosemary Cottage, Rose Cottage, and Rosella are a group of houses, originally a single house, dating to the 17th century. A rear wing was added in the late 17th century, and the building was later divided into four houses in the 19th century, now occupied as three separate dwellings. The houses are timber-framed, with plaster infill and old red tile roofs.
The original northern section, now Rosemary Cottage and Rose Cottage, forms the core of the building. It is a symmetrical, one-and-a-half-storey T-plan house with a projecting central gabled porch and front gables on each side. A gabled rear wing extends from the rear. The windows are three-light casements, with leaded glazing in Rose Cottage. The bargeboards are plain. A modern, small-paned segmental bay window has been added to the front of Rosemary Cottage.
Rosella is a two-storey, double-pile extension to the south, with central chimneys and a hipped roof. It contains two windows to each floor on the west front, and two windows over small projecting French windows on the south. These windows are flush boxed sashes with two-over-two panes. The entrance to Rosella is at the north end of the west wall, featuring an ogee-headed surround dating to the 19th century.
The group of houses is considered picturesque and forms part of a larger group including Spillers Cottages.
