Description

A pair of estate houses built in the mid-19th century, located on the west side of High Street in Hunsdon village. The houses are built as a two-storey, H-shaped block facing east. The exterior is roughcast, with steep gabled roofs covered in old red tiles. The gables feature heavy, chamfered bargeboards and finials. A central roof section has been extended downwards to form a porch, which is now enclosed. A large gabled dormer window in the centre also has matching bargeboards and a finial. There are three large, cruciform chimneys constructed from red brick. The houses have a door and a small window in the centre. The ground floor features three-light wooden casement windows with transoms, while the dormers have two-light windows. Modern casement windows are in No. 1. These are an interesting example of picturesque mid-19th century estate houses, and are part of a wider picturesque group including Nos. 5 and 7 High Street, at the beginning of the local Conservation Area. They are included on the heritage list for their contribution to the group's overall character and appearance.
