Description
The Caesar Monument, located in St. Mary's churchyard, was erected in 1740 to honor Charles Caesar of Bayford and his family. It is made of white and grey veined marble and stands on freestone steps. The monument features a Baroque sarcophagus with grey marble sides that curve upwards, and it has inscribed stone tablets of white marble attached to the sides and ends. The structure is raised on scotia moulded feet above a panelled rectangular base made of veined white marble, which includes a moulded stone step and a chamfered outer step. The monument is topped with a boldly gadrooned stage beneath a scotia moulded cap and a pyramidal top made of grey marble.
