Description
The lych gate at St Mary's Church, built in 1921 in memory of Reverend G V Oddie (1850-1919), features an oak timber frame set on a high plinth made of knapped flint with stone dressings. It has a red tiled roof and serves as a small gateway at the roadside, gabled to the front and facing south. The roof is supported by a central framed truss with four-centred arched braces, and the spandrels are intricately carved with a rose and portcullis design. On either side of the central tablet, which has raised lettering and embattled cresting, there are cusped openings. A gable cross is located on the north side, and the gate includes a pair of low gates with trefoil piercing.
