Description
This is a large barn and adjoining implement shed located 4 metres southeast of the house at Gangies. The barn dates from the 17th century and was re-roofed in the 19th century. It features a tall, five-bay timber frame and is weatherboarded, with a central gabled porch that projects at the south end, which has double doors. There are similar doors on the north side. The barn has a steep half-hipped roof that is now covered with slate. The heavy bay posts have jowled heads, and mid-height rails are butt-jointed in line. Long curved braces are side lap jointed to straight tie beams. The roof structure includes inclined queen-strut collar trusses and a single clasped purlin on each slope, with straight tension bracing in the walls. Adjoining to the east is a 19th-century two-bay implement shed, which is also timber framed, weatherboarded, and has a slate roof. It is open to the north with a central post. This building forms a picturesque group with the house.
