Description

Hunters is a stable block and walled garden that has been converted into a house. It was probably built in 1878, with additions made in 1881 and 1883 by George Devey, who also constructed Blakesware for Mrs. Gosselin between 1876 and 1879. The building is made of red brick with blue diaper patterns, features stone dressings, and has steep red tile roofs. It is simpler in design compared to the main house. The structure is one and a half storeys tall and is designed in a picturesque Tudor style, with the main entrance located on the east side. The plan is irregular, and it adjoins the south side of a large polygonal walled garden. Small casement windows with unmoulded stone surrounds and mullions are present throughout. The building has gable parapets and tall chimneys with diagonally set shafts. On the east front, there is a taller half-octagonal battlemented turret, which was originally for a water tank, featuring a wide 4-centred stone entrance arch to the right (now a window) and a gabled bracketed porch leading to the stone doorway.
