Description
The screen walls and gates to The Manor House were built in the mid-19th century, before 1851, as part of the extensive remodeling of The Manor House and the design of its garden and forecourt. The screen walls and piers are made of brick and stucco, topped with stone copings and pier caps, and feature timber gates. The walls curve back from the street in an 'S' shape and decrease in height as they extend outwards from their junctions with Nos 8 and 9. There is a central carriage gateway and a pedestrian gateway to the right, both flanked by substantial piers with stone caps that have cyma recta mouldings. A late 19th-century wrought-iron scrollwork lamp mounting is located on the right-hand pier of the pedestrian gateway. Granite spur stones are placed to protect the piers of the carriage entrance. The vehicle entry features paired wooden gates with six recessed panels each, while the pedestrian entry has a single wooden gate with six recessed panels, all topped with ramped, moulded cappings. The structure is included for its group value.
