Description

The former northwest service and kitchen wing of Balls Park Mansion is a service wing that has been converted into kitchens and staff bedrooms, and is now used as workshops with study bedrooms above. It dates from the 18th century and was altered in the early 20th century. The building is constructed of plum red brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring overburnt headers and orange dressings, topped with a Welsh slated hipped gambrel roof that has a moulded wooden eaves cornice.

The exterior is two storeys high with attics and has eight bays on the main facades. There are two large 18-pane sash windows on the left and right, framed by orange quoins and orange rubbed brick flat arches. The four central bays have altered openings with 20th-century small-paned wood casement windows on both the ground and first floors, which are complemented by herringbone brick nogging spandrels. A set of 20th-century double leaf doors is located in the third bay from the left. The roof features six box sash dormers with segmental tops and red brick chimneys topped with orange pots. The south elevation connects to the northwest wing of the main house at ground level on the right side. The short flank elevation has four bays and has been altered.

Inside, there is a newel stair with a close string, column and vase balusters, and a moulded handrail. The attics contain 18th-century four-panel doors and pegged king-post roof trusses.
