Description

Hunsdon House Lodge, located 280 metres north of the church, is a mid-19th century gate lodge built from red and black brick with a tiled Gothic style. It features one and a half storeys and faces south. The asymmetrical southern front has three elaborately bracketed two-light cusped lucarne windows, each topped with a gabled tiled roof and moulded, pierced arched bargeboards supported by brackets. A large gabled timber porch sits on a brick plinth, showcasing an elaborate carved and moulded bargeboard along with chamfered and bracketed uprights. Below the glazing, there are quatrefoil pierced panels. The lodge has single-light cusped windows with Venetian-Gothic gauged arches above, highlighted in black. The western gable has similar black bands and a header motif above a canted timber bay window that faces the road. The tiled roof features bracketed eaves. The window includes chamfered mullions and cusped heads for the leaded lattice lights. The western gable is adorned with a heavy moulded and chip carved bargeboard that has a cusped and pierced apex. A tall lateral chimney on the northern side has chamfered square shafts and deep weathered caps. This striking early 19th-century polychrome Gothic lodge once served Hunsdon House to the south.
