Description
Nos 63 and 64 Eastwick Road are a block of two houses, likely built around 1872. They back onto the dated Crusader Cottage in Church Lane, which features a quatrefoil stone with 'IH' for John Hodgson, the owner of Gilston Estate who died in 1882. This complex consists of two storeys and is made of white brick in a Gothic style, facing east. The houses have steep slate roofs with decorative bargeboards and tall white brick chimneys with triple shafts. The front features a gabled cross wing on the left and a gabled timber porch at the angle. The windows have stone lintels and sills, with 2-light cast iron lattice casements, and there are 4-panel flush beaded doors. These picturesque white brick Gothic estate houses have seen little alteration and are likely contemporary with Crusader Cottage to the west, forming part of a group of Gothic buildings associated with the Gilston Estate in the village centre.
