Description
Nos 31 and 33 High Street is a building that has been converted from a house into two shops. It dates from the 17th century or earlier, with an 18th-century brick front and late 19th-century shopfronts. The structure is timber-framed and covered in black weatherboarding, featuring a red brick front and a steep old red tiled roof that extends down in a catslide over the rear outshot.
The building has a three-unit plan with a large central chimney located one-third from the west end. It is two storeys high and has a three-window front made of Flemish-bond red brick with blue headers, a floor band, and segmental arches above the three-light casement windows. There are two late 19th-century shopfronts and a similar segmental arched casement window to the right. At the northwest corner, there is a short one-and-a-half storey gabled rear wing that is also timber-framed and weatherboarded. This building is part of a group alongside No 35, known as Walford House.
