Description

The White Cottage is a 18th-century building located on the west side of London Road, specifically at No 29. It is believed to date from 1746, as indicated in historical deeds and on the 1839 Tithe Map. The cottage is part of a terrace that includes Nos 31 to 33 to the north. The structure features a timber frame that is plastered, topped with a flat slate hipped roof. The narrower rear range has a steeper roof with a longitudinal central valley, constructed from yellow stock brick and colourwashed on the gable end.

The first floor has two windows, which are flush box sashes with 6/6 panes and louvred shutters. At the front, there is a large single-storey bay window with a slate roof and a plank door. A large external gable chimney stack with offsets is also present, along with a 6/6 paned sash window on the south wall. A modern glazed conservatory has been added at the back. The building has been altered on the ground floor but is listed for its group value within the terrace.
