Description
The Old Forge is a building located on London Road, dating from the 18th century, with a parallel 19th-century rear range. Deeds suggest it may date back to 1746, and it appears on the Tithe Map of 1839. The main part of the terrace is formed with No 29 to the south. The structure features a timber frame that is plastered, topped by a flat slate hipped roof. The narrower rear range has a steeper hipped slate roof with a longitudinal central valley and is constructed of yellow stock brick. A large ornamental central chimney made of red brick has two diagonal shafts, with a third shaft added at the front for a more imposing appearance. The front is roughly plastered and includes two windows on each floor and two doors. The windows are flush sashes with slender glazing bars and six-over-six panes, and the upper window has hinged louvred shutters. The doors feature moulded architraves and flat hoods supported by cut brackets, contributing to the picturesque quality of the terrace.
