Description

The lodges at the south entrance to the park of Great Hyde Hall were built around 1806 by Wyatville. This group consists of four pairs of neo-classical single-storey square lodges arranged diagonally. They are constructed of stucco and feature low-pitched pyramid slate roofs with broad overhangs at the eaves and central chimneys. The original altar form is preserved on the northwest lodge. Each corner of the lodges has a fluted Greek Doric column. The entrances and projecting central panels display crests on the faces within the gates, with the Jocelyn crest found on the southeast lodge. There is a single sash window on the faces outside the gates. The lodges are complemented by iron gates set on cast iron square pylons adorned with palmette open work. There are modern single-storey extensions at the rear. This group is an important example of neo-classical architecture.
