Description

Whitebarns is an 18th-century house with a 19th-century extension, situated on the north side of Whitebarns Lane in Furneux Pelham. The main block is constructed of red brick with a double-span, tiled hipped roof. A smaller wing, possibly part of an original 17th-century farmhouse, adjoins the north end and sits at a lower level. This wing has a large central chimney, with a rebuilt shaft. The north, south-east, and west elevations each feature a five-window range of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars and a band. The central entrance on the west side is marked by a rusticated arched entry and a six-panel door, sheltered by a Victorian ironwork porch. The interior contains a notable staircase characterized by twisted balusters, a moulded handrail, an open string, and carved stair heads. Some rooms retain 18th-century panelling and moulded cornices.
