Description

The farmhouse at Bridgefoot Farm is a 16th-century building that stands two storeys high and is constructed with timber framing and plaster. It is oriented east-west, with its gable facing the road. Originally, the northern side of the house featured a jetty, but this has since been altered. A late 16th-century extension to the west is unjettied and also two storeys tall. On the south side, there is a shallow gabled stair tower from the 18th or 19th century, likely replacing an older service wing, which involved some internal reconfiguration. The roof is steep and covered with old red tiles, featuring gabled ends. A central chimney is located one-third from the eastern end, with a former stair adjacent on the north side. The eastern room and the middle room have chamfered axial beams, with the middle room's beams offset to the south to accommodate the former jetty on the north. There are mortices for partition studs in the cross beam near the western end of the middle room, which has been extended to the west into what was once a larger room, now divided into a larder and a service room. There is also a single-storey axial extension to the west, which is plastered and tiled. Inside, the farmhouse features extensive exposed timber framework with close studding and tension braces, evidence of former window positions, heavy jowled posts, and a clasped purlin roof with wind braces. The windows are three-light, early 18th-century designs with iron casements.
