Description

The house at Ford Hill, Little Hadham, dates to the 18th century. It is a double-fronted, double-pile building of two storeys, constructed of plastered brick, situated below road level and facing north. The roof is tiled with gables, featuring external gable chimneys at the front and internal gable chimneys at the rear. The front facade has a central, glazed porch with a central door leading down steps, and two three-light casement windows on the ground floor, with two-light windows above. There are plastered, single-storey lean-to projections on the east and west sides. Decorative fan pargetting is present on the front. The internal partitions are timber-framed, with exposed studs within the brick external walls. The house has a symmetrical plan, with a main room on the west side. Local tradition suggests the building was formerly an inn.
