Description

Garden Cottage and The Bothy are two houses built as servant's accommodation, along with an attached barn, coach-house, and bothy for Queen Hoo Hall. They date from the early to mid 19th century and are constructed of red brick with some weatherboarding, topped with tiled roofs. The buildings form an L-shaped range, with Garden Cottage featuring one storey and an attic, while the barn, coach-house, and The Bothy are lower.

The entrance elevation of Garden Cottage faces away from the main house and includes two entrances. The main entrance has a four-fielded panelled door in a moulded surround. The windows are scattered small pane flush frame casements with one and two lights, and there are two gabled half dormers. A ridge stack with an oversailing cap is present, along with a left-side entrance into the barn. At the rear, facing the main house, are French doors, a gabled half dormer, and a three-light casement. There is also a gabled midstrey with double doors leading into the weatherboarded barn on the right, and a further door in a lean-to.

The lower coach-house is set back to the left from the entrance front and features two large double doors and a smaller door with a segmental head. The left return has two open bays leading to The Bothy, which includes a door and three two-light leaded pane flush frame casements. The gable end facing the main house has two metal frame two-light casements with segmental heads, while the inner return has two two-light windows. In the coach-house facing the main house, there is a stable door and two small windows. The interior has not been inspected. The buildings are included for their group value.
