Description
The Gore Tomb at Gilston Parish Church, located 4 metres east of the chancel, is a stone rectangular tomb chest dating from 1691. It commemorates John Gore, who died in 1691, and Mary Cramphorne, the second daughter of Sir Humphrey Gore, who died in 1697. The tomb features a moulded step and base, with swelled and fluted corners and projecting square panels, arranged in pairs on the sides and single at the ends. This is a fine example of late 17th-century memorial architecture and is part of a group with the church.
