Description

The White House is a house dating from the 18th century, with early 19th century extensions to the west front and rear. It is constructed of red brick and has a stucco finish, topped with slate roofs. This large Neo-Classical town house is set back from the street and faces west. It has two storeys and a basement, featuring a symmetrical five-window west front and irregular tall pavilions at the rear. The central entrance and gable chimneys are part of the design.

The formal west front is distinguished by giant order corner pilasters that have moulded caps and necking, along with a full entablature that includes a blocking course, a projecting floor band, and a plinth. The recessed sash windows have six-over-six panes and a moulded surround, with the exception of the window above the porch, which is uniquely framed. The heavy Ionic porch features unfluted columns, a full entablature, and a blocking course, leading up five steps with moulded nosings to a four-panel door that has flush beaded lower panels and a rectangular fanlight above.

To the left, there is a screen wall with a similar entablature and blocking course, which includes two blank recesses. The chimney caps are adorned with echinus moulding. On the right side, there is a single-storey pilastered side entrance that is set back. The property is also enhanced by contemporary iron front gates with an overthrow.
