Description
The barn and stables adjacent at Plashes Farm, located 40 meters to the northeast of the house, date back to the 16th century, with the western stable range featuring a stone plaque marked '1857'. The barn is constructed with a timber frame set on a brick sill, covered in weatherboarding and topped with a steep old red tile roof that is half-hipped at both ends. Surrounding the yard to the south are low ranges made of diapered red brick with slate roofs. There are slated weatherboarded lean-to sheds against the south wall of the barn, arranged symmetrically around a gabled central porch. The barn itself is a tall, five-bay single-aisled structure facing south. It has heavy jowled posts with long, slightly curved braces connecting to the arcade plate and cambered tie-beams. The roof features clasped purlins with heavy queen struts and lacks collars. The arcade plate includes a face-halved bladed scarf joint. Aisle tie-beams and peninsula brick sills, along with sill-plates, support the aisle posts, and wall rails are tennoned in line. The brick stable ranges have doors that open onto the enclosed yard.
