Description
The Potten End Strict Baptist Chapel is a Baptist chapel built in 1835, as indicated by a stone plaque on the south gable. The chapel features a gallery added by 1860, a rostrum from 1903, and a south porch and minister's vestry constructed in 1921. It is made of red brick with a slate roof and measures 20 feet by 40 feet, oriented north to south with the entrance at the south front and a lean-to vestry at the north end.
Inside, the chapel has three bays, with a panelled rostrum at the north end and a panelled gallery in the south bay. The windows are located only in the middle and north bays of the side walls. The south front includes two pointed arched windows with Y-tracery and lattice leaded glazing, which flank a small gabled central brick porch. Above the porch is a large oval window made of gauged brick, emphasizing a horizontal design, along with an inscribed stone plaque. The side windows are two-light lattice leaded with segmental arches and each has a single iron opening light. The entrance under the gallery is supported by two slender iron columns.
