Description
A block of four houses dating from the mid-19th century, situated on the common at Chipperfield. The houses are constructed of uncoursed knapped flint with red brick dressings, covered by a steep slate roof. The design is picturesque, with two pairs of two-storey houses facing west onto the common. The houses have a double-pile plan, with end chimneys and rear wings. The front elevation features two conjoined gabled porches, each with elaborate looped bargeboards, shouldered arches, and frequent red brick vertical quoined bands. Each house has two first-floor windows, a two-light window above the porch, a three-light window to the side, and a three-light window beside the porch. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within gauged, chamfered brick flat arches and surrounds, with the glazing bars thickened to resemble casement windows. The building is included on the list for its group value.
