Description
The Two Brewers Inn is a building that consists of three houses, now functioning as an inn. The western part dates from the 18th century, while the central section is from the 17th century with 19th-century additions, and the eastern part is a late 17th-century structure. The exterior is finished in painted stucco with steep tile roofs, and the rear wing of the middle part is weatherboarded in white.
The inn features a long, two-storey range facing south, with the eastern end facing The Street. The western part was formerly the schoolmaster's house, while the middle section, which has cellars, was the Two Brewers Inn. The eastern part used to be a grocery shop. The first floor has a window arrangement of 2:5:2, with five small bay windows and a 19th-century porch. The windows are recessed sash types with 8/8 panes. The rear wing is also two storeys high and has three windows. The Two Brewers Inn is notable for its history as a training location for famous boxers such as Mase, Sayers, and Fitzsimmons. This building is included for its group value.
