Description
Orchard Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with brick casing added in the 18th century and a rear extension built in 1959. The building features a timber frame that is cased in red brick, with some exposed brick infill on the northern gable. It has steep old red tile roofs and is a small two-storey house with an attic, measuring two windows wide and facing west, accompanied by a parallel matching rear extension. A large external chimney is located at the rear.
The west front displays corbelled and dentilled eaves, along with two large brick buttresses that were added in the 20th century. There is a small swept-roof dormer situated near the roof ridge. The windows are fitted with three-light flush leaded casements. A half-glazed door on the left-hand side is linked by a segmental arch to an adjoining window. The southern gables are tile-hung, featuring an 18th-century two-light attic window on the left and a two-light flush casement on the first floor above a hipped rectangular bay window. Additionally, there is a fine lead cistern dated '1718', which is adorned with arcading and strapwork.
