Description
The ice house at Beechwood Park School, located 30 meters to the west of the North Stables, dates from the 18th century, likely around 1754. It was designed by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown for Sir Thomas Sebright during the landscaping of the park and the planning to enlarge the house. The structure is made of red brick in English bond, with many purple bricks, and is set into an earth mound. It features a circular conical well approximately 5 meters in diameter, topped with a dome. The entrance, which faces east, is a 2-meter long passage with a tunnel vault that is now largely destroyed. There are recesses for a wooden floor structure located about 7 meters below the entrance level.
