Description
Church Cottages consist of two houses with a complex history. The core of the building dates back to the 16th century, with a crosswing, followed by a taller hall range constructed in the 17th century to the west. A lower kitchen extension was added in the 18th century on the west side, and a mid-19th-century gabled extension was built to the east.
The timber frame is exposed and filled with red brick, with red brick sills. The west end extension is built with chequered red and black brick, while the east extension is of red brick. The roof is covered with steep old red tiles. The layout is T-shaped, comprising the hall range and crosswing, now arranged as two storeys throughout. There is a door leading into the hall range alongside the east crosswing. A west gable chimney is visible. A lower and shallower west kitchen extension features a rear wing. The east extension extends the front with a two-window gable. The windows are 2-light sliding casements. The hall range and west extension now form No. 1. A glazed door, with a crosswing and a hipped tiled open porch, provides access.
