Description

Sebright House and the rear Sebright Cottage is a mid-18th century inn, later converted into a private house, with a 19th-century stable at the rear. It was an inn until 1967. The building is constructed of fine red brick with a low stucco plinth; the stable is of plum brick with tile hanging to the upper floor of the rear wing on the south side. It has steep old red tile roofs, with the main range featuring a gambrel rear slope and a pitched front slope. The house is symmetrical, three storeys high, and three windows wide, with a central entrance and end chimneys. A central stairwell is located at the rear. The east front has 2-light small-paned Yorkshire sliding casements on the second floor, recessed sash windows with 8/8 panes on the first floor, and two triple-sash segmental bowed oriel windows on the ground floor, each with panes arranged 3/2: 9/6: 3/2. All windows have flat gauged arches. The elaborate wooden doorcase features a triangular dentilled pediment on fluted Doric pilasters, panelled reveals, an archivolt, a fan-pattern semi-circular fanlight, a moulded transom extending across the reveals and entablature of the pilasters, and a three-panelled fielded door with a top glazed panel.
