Description
Water Lane Farm, now a private house, and its adjoining barn date in part to the 17th century, with the northern part of the house being built in the 18th century. The house has painted brick walls and a steep hipped red tile roof, while the barn has a steep old red tile roof. The southern portion of the house is likely from the 17th century and was originally two cells. The left-hand cell has a rear-wall chimney and suggests a stair in the right-hand cell. The house’s front features a central flat-topped dormer and a central door flanked by three-light casement windows, all of which are renewed. The main part of the house, facing west, is two storeys and has a basement, with a rear wall chimney on the north cell and a south gable internal chimney. It has a symmetrical three-window front with a central door. Small, multi-paned Yorkshire sliding casements with gauged flat arches feature on the first floor, while three-light casements are on the ground floor, leading to a four-panelled door that rises two steps under a flat arch. The barn is a tall three-bay structure with a gabled central porch on the south side, an opposed double door on the north side, and a wind vane on the west gable end. It has a roof with clasped purlins on jowled posts and angled queen-posts.
