Description
This is a timber-frame house, originally dating to the 17th century, with a 20th-century extension to the north. The main part of the house has roughcast walls and a steep thatched roof with a scalloped ridge, half-hipped at the east end. A matching plastered brick wing extends to the north, also with a thatched roof and a half-hipped north end. The house was originally planned with a 1½-story, 3-cell layout, and was likely designed as an internal chimney house, probably with a lobby entrance on the north side, but now features a recessed entrance in the north wing. A large internal chimney is located in the front roof slope approximately one-third of the way from the west end. There is one swept dormer with a 2-light casement window at the eaves to the east of the chimney. Three casement windows are present on the ground floor. The internal chimney has three flues; a single flue serves the large external east gable kitchen chimney. A 19th-century small gable chimney is located internally on the west side. The 1½-story north extension has two similar swept dormers on the east side, but a broad north gable with two windows on each floor and a central door, accessible by a bridge over a stream.
