Description

Burford House is an early 19th-century house with a timber frame core. It is located on the east side of Burford Street in Hoddesdon. The front of the house is built of yellow stock brick with a slate hipped roof, and features gauged, yellow brick segmental window arches. The rear is red brick. The house has five windows and three storeys. A slightly projecting central bay boasts an open-pedimental Tuscan doorcase with a semi-circular leaded fanlight and a single sash window. Triple-hung sash windows flank the doorcase on all three floors. A stucco band runs horizontally across the façade. To the south, a rear range comprises three windows and incorporates a full-height canted window bay. The interior features an early 17th-century staircase in the centre, with fluted balusters, and good early 19th-century detailing in the rooms of the south range.
