Description
High Leigh Sunken Well and Donkey Track is a mid-19th century structure located in Hoddesdon. It features a sunken circular pen designed for a donkey to draw water from a well, which is accessed via a serpentine grotto passage. The pen measures approximately 6 metres in diameter and 2 metres deep, with a low circular timber roof supported by later red brick. There is a tunnel on the west side, and the grotto entrance on the south side has walls and an arch made of imitation rock constructed from yellow stock brick and cement. A covered well is situated near the center of the pen.
