GV II

House and 2 shops. Early C19 with c1500 core. Grey gault and red brick, slate roof. Rectangular plan. 2 storeys. S front elevation: 3 bays with pilasters and upper string course. E end quadrant curved into facade of No.2 Cross Street (qv). Deep eaves with paired modillions, 2 gault brick stacks. Also 2 storeys of single W end bay of No.2 Cross Street. Ground floor, 2 early C20 shop fronts with plate glass panes. Doorways, No.17 within No.2 Cross Street, has moulded panelled doorcase, door has upper glazed light and lower moulded panel, similar door to No.17A. First floor windows, sashes with glazing bars, two 4x4 panes. One similar one in unit of No.2 Cross Street in quadrant 3x4 panes. Rear, N elevation: ground floor slated lean-to. First floor red brick with 2 similar tall metal casement windows 2x4 panes, also, similar wooden window 2x6 panes. Large gault brick stack through pitch of principal slate roof. INTERIOR: roll moulded bridging joist c1500 in shop of No.17 continued from shop in No.2 Cross Street. The awkward junction of No.17 with No.2 Cross Street appears to have been dictated by a large late medieval building.
